Deer leave my bulbs alone, but those squirrels! The wire caging really works and so does laying wire over the ground and letting the bulbs grow through it. Only problem is if you need to pick the wire up during the summer. Its almost impossible if other plants have grown through it too. Denise

Love the tips on squirrel and deer. One reason we have avoided planting bulbs around here. We will give it a try this year!

Hi Diana,

I fight with squirrels here. After loosing most of my bulbs I decided containers were easier. (the wire cage does help with squirrels but containers also mean I don’t have to dig up tender bulbs in the fall too. After all, I am a lazy gardener Denise

Great article Denise. I agree with you that I prefer to plant bulbs in containers. And because of the hot weather here in Florida, it seems the only way for me to have bulbs every year.
