Beautiful but sad story -- did not know about this history of PA at all. First learned about Kunzua from Pennsylvania Magazine (Jan/Feb 2010). Always wondered why PA had no Indian Reservations of Lands especially since I had always learned in school that William Penn made fair treaties (if there is such a thing) with the Native Peoples of PA. We pushed out the Seneca's because of development and now with the greedy suburban developments in our state we are pushing out the simple Amish people and also with the search for oil destroying our forests and wilderness. PA is no longer Penn's Woods. It has lost much of its beauty over the years of my life time.

I remember as a teenager visiting the monument of Cornplanter when doing a research paper on Cornplanter. 30 years later, I cannot find that paper (who would) nor locate the site. I wish to take my children there. Is the cemetary referenced above called the Riverview-Corydon Cemetary?

I was great friends with Al and Thelma Shane and also Duce and Mars Bowen. Through them I met a man who led the fight against the dam, he may have been Chief of the nation at the time, I think his first name was George ?? do you remember who I am talking about?? I still have some dried corn that he gave me from his corn patch and want to tell my grandchildren about the Seneca people. I also have a tape of Thelma Shane telling a few Seneca stories. she called me Di - Waga- Has ??I made Duce a buckskin bag for the items he used for his stories, his family still has it. If you can remember the man I am talking about please email me at dmcdaniel23@cox.net
Thank You

The Kinzua Dam is a beautiful area. The leaves are still offering a lot of color so its a great time to stop by. Enjoy your visit. Denise

I noticed several people asked about the reburial location of James Morrison, Sr. He is now buried at Willow Dale Cemetery located at 30 Hedgehog Lane in Bradford, PA. Attached is a link to information about his life as well as a picture of the grave marker.

I am also a descendant of James Morrison and will be visiting the Kinzua Dam for the first time this weekend. Thanks to all of you for your personal stories and information on the area and how your families were affected by the building of the dam. Knowing this history will help make the trip more meaningful.

I just googled Carl & Emily's, wondering if anyone else remembers the great dinners and the wonderful horseradish sauce they used to make. I was pleased to find the article on Corydon and Kinzua and know that many others still remember those places and at least a few still miss Carl and Emily's! We lived in NY but my dad used to ride his bike down to Kinzua and Corydon when he was a kid, and it was many a Sunday dinner he took us to eat at Carl & Emily's!

The Morrison's were also relatives of mine. James Sr. was my 5x great grandfather. I am hoping to visit Kinzua again so I can visit the Cornplanter Cemetery. James Sr. might be found at the Willow Dale. I know Mary M Massa asked about the location in July 09. Let me know if my information is incorrect.
