I experimented this year with starwberries in containers due to small garden space, and actually it was great idea they smell nice, they look lovely and they taste wonderful

I still use broken pots or pebbles in the container on the bottom but I have also found breaking the soil on the top from air and water helps keep the soil healthier. Denise

Superb tips on the choice of soil and putting them on tray of pebbles – we had previously put broken pots into the bottom of containers to help the drainage

Hi, Thanks for your comment above about using artificial soil composed of peat moss. You have made a valid point about real soil getting hard. I did not know that. I was wondering why my flowering plant had a very slow growth. Will try using your technique. Great tip, thanks for sharing.
