County fairs bring back nostalgia – Warren County fair begins Aug 4th.

Local fairs add excitement and a unique look into a community. For many years my family has participated in out local county fair. Known as the Warren county Fair, it’s a week-long event that attracts people from all over the North West part of Pennsylvania and even into Ohio.

My introduction to the fair was through entering art in the art department and participating in 4-H programs. When I was young I made the trek to the fair with my mother who was an avid artist. I would watch her enter her artwork in various categories. At that time the fair was in Youngsville. As the fair grew it moved to its present local, which offered permanent buildings and room for growth. Later I entered my own artwork comprising of art and photography. In 4-H, which is a fantastic program for growth. I participated in up to 13 different categories. For several years our club helped organize the bicycle rodeo.

The 4-H program gave me the opportunity to stay on grounds and I even worked the 4-H booth when it was down by the horse ring many years ago. Making blueberry pancakes at 6 in the morning still remains a vivid memory. I saw the 4-H building go up and even helped at work bees. Probably the most interesting memory was the day the bear escaped from his cage in between performances. I thought everyone was joking at first until I looked out the one tent and saw the bear on the run. His walk was short lived but it made for interesting conversation during the day.

Whether you belong to 4-H, show animals, enter garden produce or bring in art or handmade items the fair has something to offer everyone. From the famous 2-foot subs to rides or entertainment the fair bring back old time events and a feel of the simpler carefree life where schedules and appointment take a back seat.

The Warren County Fair starts Monday August 4th and will run until the following Sunday, August 10. It offers tractor pulls, daily entertainment, and rides. And if you watched American Idol a few years back you will remember Bucky Covington, the country singer who placed 8th. He will be performing an evening performance Tuesday.

So if you want an entertaining evening with events for the entire family head to the fair.
